Citation guidelines

Archives

When using or publishing materials as a source, you must state that they belong to the Finnish Heritage Agency’s Archives and include the author/creator information. Citations may vary according to the citation or captioning practices used in the publication.

Examples:

  • Pesonen, Petro 2002. Rääkkylä, Jaamankangas, Pörrinmökki, inspection of an archaeological site. Hnb:70. Finnish Heritage Agency Archives.
  • Köpman, Tuuli, 1991. Inventory of the park and garden of Suitia Manor Castle. Hob:78. Finnish Heritage Agency Archives.

Picture Collections

When publishing images, you must mention the Finnish Heritage Agency as well as the name of the author and/or photographer, if known. If known, the year of photography is also recommended.

Examples:

  • Photo: T. H. Järvi 1926, Finnish Heritage Agency.
  • Photo: Finnish Heritage Agency/T. H. Järvi 1926.

If the photographer or author is unknown, list only the Finnish Heritage Agency.

Some images in the Picture Collections of Finnish Heritage Agency belong to special collections, the name of which must be stated when the image is published.

Examples:

  • Photo: Harald Rosenberg, Antell Collection, Finnish Heritage Agency.
  • Photo: Jarmo Kontiainen, Kaleva, Press Photo Archive JOKA, Finnish Heritage Agency.

Archaeological Collections

When publishing object images from the Archaeological Collections, you must state the object number and that the object belongs to the Finnish Heritage Agency’s Archaeological Collections, as well as the photographer’s name, if known.

Collections of the National Museum of Finland

When publishing object images from the collections of the National Museum of Finland, you must state that the object belongs to the National Museum’s collections and the photographer’s name, if known. In the case of certain special collections, the name of that collection must also be mentioned. This will be specified on a case-by-case basis according to the picture which is ordered.

  • Collections of the National Museum of Finland, Antell Collection.
