Note-taking photos

Note-taking photos

This is an attachment to the Permit and Collection Service’s Material Request form, and you accept its terms when submitting the Material Request. With the Material Request, you ask to view materials at the Finnish Heritage Agency’s Collections and Conservation Centre in Vantaa.

When examining materials on-site, you may take photos only for the purpose of making notes. Note-taking photos are permitted for personal research use only. Because the photos may contain copyrighted material or personal data, they may not be published without a separate, per image permission.

Taking photos in the research room

Keep personal and object safety in mind when photographing. Flash photography is not allowed, and photographing must not disturb other customers.

Carefully review the Permit and Collection Service’s instructions (asiointi.museovirasto.fi/fi/ohjeet) and follow the guidance provided by staff.

When photographing with a camera, you may use a tabletop tripod. The use of larger tripods and climbing on a chair to take photos is prohibited.

Separate permission for further use

If you wish to use the photos e.g. in your thesis or another publication, you need a separate permission. Publication permission is requested by submitting a service request in the Finnish Heritage Agency’s Permit and Collection Service. There are two ways:

  1. If your Material Request has not yet been closed: Send a message within the Material Request identifying the photos you wish to publish. Also state where you wish to publish the photos. Wait for a response before publishing your photos.
  2. If time has passed since your visit to the Collections and Conservation Centre and your Material Request has been closed: Request publication permission using the Information Request form. Specify the photos you wish to publish in the request. Also state where you wish to publish the photos. Wait for a response before publishing your photos.
